Sugaring: Why You Will Never Get Waxed Again

Beauty / Sexy Mama / September 25, 2017

Have you ever heard of Sugaring? If you haven’t, I’m about to change your life.

What Is Sugaring?

Sugaring hair removal is an ancient middle-eastern practice which uses an all natural paste or gel made from ingredients like sugar, water, lemon juice, honey or molasses. It’s made to remove the hair follicle from the root with results that can last up to six weeks. Sugaring eases the hair out the follicle in the natural direction of hair growth. This means you have less chance of developing ingrown hairs or breakage.

The History of Sugaring

Sugaring hair removal dates back to 1900 BC, it is speculated that the first sugaring compound was made from honey. Sugaring was also called “Sukkar” in the Middle East and Egypt; as “Agda” or “Harem” in Turkey and “Moum” in Iran.  The Mesopotamian royalty required their women to be kept hair free using sugar. Egyptian hieroglyphics describe girls serving the Pharaoh were expected to remove their hair. Hair was considered low class and to be amongst the upper class you had to be hairless! In the Turkish Empire, it was an important part of court life to remove body hair which was also considered an art! This tradition has been handed down through generations in the Middle East.

Sugaring vs Waxing

  • Sugaring uses only all natural ingredients. There are no chemicals, fragrance or coloring. It is hypoallergenic, so you won’t have any skin irritation. Waxing is made of resins, as well as other toxic chemicals. Many people are irritated by waxing and can not use it as an option for hair removal.
  • Sugaring paste is applied cold and warm up by your body temperature. While on the other hand, wax has to be heated up in order for it to become liquified which can cause burning and scarring.
  • Sugar cannot adhere to live skin cells. This means less discomfort for you & less trauma to your skin. Sugaring does remove dead skin cells – so as the hair is removed your skin, it is also getting exfoliated. Wax has been known to remove more than just the hair, since it can adhere directly to live skin cells, which makes waxing more painful & irritating. Waxing can also remove a layer of your skin. OUCH!
  • Sugaring Paste is hypoallergenic & non-comedogenic. Sugar naturally helps control cross contamination & bacteria cannot breed in the tub of sugar. Cross contamination in a waxing room is always a danger, especially since bacteria will breed inside a tub of wax.
  • Sugaring extracts very short hairs. Your hair only needs to be the length of a grain of rice. To be waxed, your hair needs to be a least 1 centimeter which is the width of your fingernail.

Other Benefits of Sugaring

  • It is a natural exfoliate and lightener. Lemons are used in sugaring and we know that lemons are terrific for brightening and lightening. I noticed a difference immediately in the color of my underarms.
  • It can lead to permanency. Hair growth is more refined after each sugaring session. After a number of sugaring treatments the hair follicle begins to deplete, which leads to permanency

My Experience

I had heard of sugaring but had never seen it done or tried it. I decided to give it a go and I went to The Sweet Spot Studio in Chino. Tilly is the owner and Sugarist and I found her to be extremely down to earth. She went over the process with me and told me about all the products that she would be using. She made me feel very comfortable and although I was only getting her underarms done, I was a bit nervous when I walked in but by the time that we got started, I was ready.

Tilly made a sugar ball and let me know that she would be using the ball for both of my underarms. I didn’t have to worry about any double dipping the way some people do when they wax.

The sugar was cold when she started but it warmed up from my body temperature. Tilly made sure to sugar in the way that my hair grew to prevent any ingrown hairs and she made sure that she was very thorough. It was not painful, at all. I was surprised! It felt like you took a band-aid off. That’s it. No screaming and no tears and let me tell you that I felt so smooth! The stubble that you feel when you shave was gone. I kept touching my underarms. It was just so crazy how smooth and painless it was. I have to say that it was the best experience and I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner.

I encourage you to give sugaring a try. I promise that you will never go back to waxing again. If you are within driving distance of Chino, Ca, you need to go see Tilly at The Sweet Spot Studio. Trust me, you will thank me for changing your life!

I’ve never heard of sugaring, but will definitely look into it. Thanks for for taking the time to share the benefits of sugaring and why it’s a better option than waxing.

I have to check this out for my little one. She has to remove hair for competitions and I don’t approve of shaving. Waxing really hurts… you had me at virtually painless…

I would totally recommend this for your daughter. It’s all natural and there isn’t painike waxing. Plus, the hair takes longer to back. Best option ever!

I have never tried sugaring but you had me sold at it doesn’t hurt and only feels like a band aid being pulled off. I have gotten my chin and eyebrows waxed, they always hurt and I have definitively gotten burned before.

It has been like 2 weeks since I got sugared and I still dont have hair under my arms at all!! You gotta do it!

I LOVE sugaring. My first experience was with Shobha Threading in New York City. It last so much longer than waxing, and its not as hot when applied.

I’ve never been waxed so I don’t know about sugaring. Maybe for my next big birthday, I will get sugaring done.

on October 1, 2017

I get my eyebrows threaded, but I have been wanting to get other parts waxed but I may try this instead!! Sounds AWESOME!!!

I have been SO curious about sugaring because I’ve heard a lot about it. Thanks so much for answering so many of my questions. I’m definitely going to be checking it out.

Oh my goodness I need this. I’m a hairy beast. I’m one of those people who don’t like to wax because I get irritated skin. Plus it hurts like hell. This is something I’d be interested in trying, especially since you said it’s painless. Now the real test would be a bikini wax!

I would love to try sugaring. I am tired of shaving my underarms every couple days. I am glad you had a good sugaring experience I would like to try a spot near me!

on October 2, 2017

I’ve never heard of sugaring. You’ve put me on to something new. I would try this especially because it didn’t hurt.

on October 4, 2017

I wasn’t sure where this was about to go so I was nervous to click when I read the title haha. I’ve heard of sugaring but never had it done. I’m glad it was painless I’m gonna look it up in NY.

on October 4, 2017

I’ve heard various things about sugaring, but nothing this in depth. I’ll definitely be looking around for this service in my area.

on October 4, 2017

Wow that thing looks intimidating lol. Didn’t know this even existed. Didn’t suspect it would have so many benefits. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

So, I will stay with a wax on my brows and chin for sure – but sugaring could TOTALLY be my bae for my upper lip and underarms. Especially if you say it doesn’t hurt. I got my upper lip waxed and felt like a was an extra on Zoobilee Zoo. I also feel like it is SO UNFAIR that I have lip and chin hair. The underarms and all of those other places I can take, but NOT MY LIP AND CHIN! It’s too painful to remove.

on October 4, 2017

Cali is too far, now I have to research it on the east coast. I wanna try now.

Let's Talk! I want to know what you think?
