Married At First Sight – Would You Be Down?

Entertainment & Celebrities / August 5, 2014

I came across a new reality show and social experiment, titled, “Married at First Sight.”  The show follows the process of couples who are matched on several different factors and meet for the first time at the altar.  Can you imagine?

With the divorce rate so high for traditional marriage, the experiment is to see if people who are matched together in an arranged marriage, will far better than those who choose one another and have a traditional marriage, since the divorce rate for arranged marriage is 4%.

The show follows 3 couples through the process, wedding, honeymoon and 4 weeks after the wedding.  Because the wedding is legal, the only way out is divorce. At the end of the 4 weeks, they make the decision to stay together or not.

Now can you imagine, meeting someone for the first time at the altar, knowing nothing about them; not even their name and saying, “I Do?”  I know I can’t but I guess in some ways, I can understand people who are looking for love and have gone though the motions of dating and relationships that just didn’t work.  I suppose, when all else fails, try something completely out of the box and this is most def , out the box!

“Married at First Sight,”  is by far, one of the most interesting reality shows that I have ever watched and I am curious to see how thing play out.

Let me know what you think…

Would you be open to an arranged marriage?

I happen to think this is an excellent idea! As harsh as it may sound, “marrying for Love” kind of ruined the sanctity of marriage. Sure, it’s a great thing to Love your partner and to spend the rest of your life with someone that you Love but marriage means so much more than that. And the other meanings have gotten lost I believe. I think as Americans we have this false impression of arranged marriages being these really awful, oppressive institutions–especially for women. But I don’t think that was always the case. So this show may shed some light on that false impression.

I agree with you. I think sometimes, especially when we have made the wrong choices in a mate on numerous occassions have to “think outside the box.” I think that in this experiment, the experts were very careful in matching the couples and used so many factors to make sure that they matched the most likely couples that it just may work.
As I watch the show, you can see in some couples, the whole “expectation” thing rears it’s head and seems to be causing some problems and I think that is a mistake that so many of us have in relationships and marriage. We have this expectation of what we “think” things should be like instead of accepting people for who they are. Not what you “expect” them to be.

Initially I was skeptical of the idea of this experiment, until I started watching the show. It seems at least two of the couples has (to me at least) what it takes to make it forever (I’m still a little iffy about Money and Vaughn because they bicker over silly things all the time and he’s a bit controlling). I’m rooting for them all though–it would be nice to see a partnership that sticks (and they certainly have the couples go through the ringer in four weeks!)

Charlotte, at first I was too but then it seemed liked they really did match everyone well. I was a little sad that Monet and Vaughn didn’t make it but they just couldn’t get their communication together. I will be interested in seeing the 6 month recap to see if the other 2 are still together.

Let's Talk! I want to know what you think?
