Online Dating Do’s and Don’ts Part 1

Dating & Relationships / He Said / April 13, 2014

More and more people are meeting online these days.  With the busy schedules, children and other pressing items, online dating has exploded.

There are still some that have a negative opinion of dating online.  They think it is only for those who are desperate or are losers.  This is simply not true.  When done right online dating can help you find love.

I will divide this article into two parts.  Today I will look at what you can do to help increase your online success odds.  Tomorrow, I will look at the land mines you need to avoid so you don’t get your heart blown to pieces.

Do List:

  1. Avoid free services – Some say it is just as bad as the paid ones, but you will avoid many of the tire kickers.  I know the paid ones may not be much better, but at least you should avoid some of the SPAM that you get from the free sites.  Do you really want to get an email from everyone that just has an email address?  Sometimes you get what you pay for so don’t be afraid to pay a little.  This does not mean that you should pay too much for the service.  Only you know what your budge can afford.
  2. Go with a specialized service – Black People Meet, Christian Singles.  There are specialized sites for everyone.  This one maybe better for you because you already know that you have something in common with the visitors of that site.
  3. Compliment or comment about something on his profile –   Find something that you like about his profile and give him a compliment on it.  It will show that you actually took time to read it.  Do not make it a compliment about something physical.  We will talk more about that later. Online Dating Do's and Don'ts Part 1
  4. Be honest about what you want  – If you want a serious relationship, do not put down friends, dating, etc.  Put down what you actually want.
  5. Keep your profile brief and to the point.  Most men are not going to read the great novel.  Most guys have the attention span of a 5-year-old.  We want women to cut to the chase.  Make sure you do not weigh your profile down with too many words.
  6. Take a good picture – Men are visual.  Surprise, surprise.  Make sure that you picture looks recent.  With all the camera phones and cheap digital phones there is no excuse for not having and up to date picture.
  7. Take a full-bodied picture –   Here is the good news, there is someone for everyone.  Large or small, there is someone for us all.  You don’t want to get the uncomfortable questions about size.  It would be better if you knew up front that a guy was not attracted to you then if you wasted your time on a date.

Come back tomorrow for what you should to do to find love online.
