Steel Magnolias Remake Airs October 7 on Lifetime

A made for television remake of many of our all time favorite film, Steel Magnolias is coming to Lifetime October 7.

The film that originally featured Shirley MacLaine, Sally Field and Olympia Dukakis will now feature an African American cast starring, Alfre Woodard, Phylicia Rashad, Jill Scott and Queen Latifah.  Set in the South, Steel Magnolia follows the lives of six women and their friendships as they deal with family, life, children, disease and death.

“It’s a classic story with classic characters,” Woodard told the New York Post . “It’s not like we’re turning it into Big Momma’s House!.”
