Catch Me Elsewhere
Lifetime never ceases to amaze me. They have begun filming the television movie, Betty and Coretta about the lives of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Coretta Scott King, as single mothers after the assassinations of their husbands, Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The project previously titled, Parallel Lives will star Angela Bassett as Coretta and Mary J. Blige to play Betty.
Ruby Dee will appear in the film as a “historical witness” to narrate the story “as someone familiar with the events of both their lives.”
As you recall, Bassett played Shabazz in the Spike Lee film, Malcolm X and won a Image Award for her performance. I am curious to see Mary J play, what I expect to be, a serious role. It is a good thing that Bassett has already played the roll of Betty Shabazz, so she is more than qualified to help Mary if she needs it.
Filming started this month. There is no air date yet.
